Horai-san

Horai
Comment: A hike over the ridge ruled by Horai-san probably offers the best views that one can get of Lake Biwako. This and the cable car up to Horai-san leads to relatively large crowds on sunny weekend days. For them, plenty of entertainment is offered around the ski pistes of Horai-san: slides, treasure hunts, bars, animals...
How to get there:
The bus line number 10 from Demachiyanagi via Ohara to Kutsuki has several stops from which trails climb Eastward towards Horai-san and the hills around. The other option is to climb from the shore of Lake Biwako. From most nearby train stations trails can be accessed, and there is also the option of climbing with a cable car.
Map:
There used to be a (very rough, more like a sketch) hiking map that Kyoto bus would give out for free at Demachiyanagi, but this service seems to have been stopped. So as usual, Yamachizu's map is probably your best choice.

Can be combined with Buna-ga-take for nice two-day hikes. All the huts on the map seem to be either locked or broken, though.
