Tsurugi-dake (剱岳) and Tate-yama (立山)

Tsurugi
Comment: Tsurugi-dake is the place to go, if you want to impress Japanese hikers. Due to a few very exposed spots that normal hikers can only pass with the massive help of iron nails and chains, it is regarded as the toughest hikable mountain. As a consequence, many people go there, and you may have to queue up at critical spots. Further, you will normally have plenty of people vertically above yourself in those spots; therefore a helmet would not be a bad idea.
How to get there:
From Toyama take the Alpine Route (train, cable car, then bus) to Murodo.

Map:
Lonely Planet's book on hiking in Japan has a good description of the area. Of course, Yamachizu has a map, the Tateyama one.
