Gion Matsuri 2008 -- How to turn a float

Bamboo cuts are put on the street in front of the float.

The float"s front wheels are pulled onto the bamboo, while the hind wheels are blocked.

Some water is added to make the bamboo more slippery.

And with a sideward pull the float turns a bit. It takes several iterations to do a ninety-degree turn.

Notice the important work of the men with fans on the front of the float.

The bamboo cuts are taken along to the next turn.
